Icebreaker Two:  Building a tower

Time allocated : 25 minutes.

Aim: This activity promotes teamwork and problem solving skills. It should encourage learners to talk to each other and fully participate in activities following the ice breaker.

Instructions: Divide learners into groups of four and provide each group with twelve pieces of A3 paper, 1 sellotape roll and a pair of scissors. Give learners twenty minutes to build a free standing tower using the paper and sellotape. The challenge is to build a tower taller than the other groups. Each group needs to ensure that their tower is strong as well as tall. If a groups tower topples (after the twenty minutes provided to build it) they will be excluded from the competition.

Tutor Note : As this is an icebreaker session, group learners with people they have not worked with before.
